Caisleáin Óir Hotel is a fourth-generation family-run hotel, bar, and restaurant in Annagry, West Donegal, built on generations of hospitality, music, storytelling, food, and community.
Today, the hotel is run by Anita, James & Michelle McDevitt, who continue the family tradition with a deep commitment to warm Donegal hospitality, local food, and the continued development of Annagry as a special micro-destination. Their team, headed up by Kevin Boyle, strives to deliver true Gaeltacht hospitality that complements the culture, character, and people of the area.
Food is now at the heart of the Caisleáin Óir story. The kitchen is led by acclaimed chef Cathal Armstrong, supported by his wife Tina Armstrong, a highly skilled pastry chef. Cathal brings with him an extraordinary international reputation, having built his name in Washington, D.C. as chef and co-founder of the celebrated Restaurant Eve in Alexandria, Virginia.
He has been recognised by Food & Wine as one of its Ten Best New Chefs and later as one of its 50 Hall of Fame Best New Chefs. He is also an eight-time James Beard Award-nominated chef, one of the most respected honors in the American culinary world.
At Restaurant Eve, Cathal earned a reputation for refined cooking, exceptional sourcing, and food with a true sense of place. The restaurant’s Tasting Room received a rare four-out-of-four-star rating from The Washington Post critic Tom Sietsema, and Cathal was also honored by the Obama White House as a Champion of Change for his work around food, health, and community.
Together, Cathal and Tina are bringing that same level of skill, discipline, flavor, and care to Caisleáin Óir. Their approach is rooted in great produce, strong technique, proper stocks, seasonality, and respect for ingredients. It is food that is ambitious but honest, refined but welcoming, and deeply connected to the landscape and coastline of Donegal.
